Air Canada resumes flights Panama – Toronto – Panama
Panama. After two years without operating from Panama, Canada's flagship airline, Air Canada, resumes its flights Panama (PTY) – Toronto (YYZ) – Panama (PTY) through two weekly frequencies: Friday and Sunday.
The inaugural flight AC1874 that took place on November 4 from Toronto, with 116 passengers, was a complete success. In addition, it is planned that by December 21 this route will have an additional frequency on Wednesdays, operating a total of three weekly frequencies.
The reception of the first Air Canada flight was attended by Her Excellency, Mrs. Kim Ursu, Ambassador of Canada in Panama; Ozan Demir, Director of Air Canada Operations for Central America, South America and the Caribbean; Analía de Arosemena, advisor to the General Management of Corporate Marketing of the Tocumen Airport and Merci Correa, representative of the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA), among other attendees.
The Tocumen representative welcomed Air Canada, after 32 months of absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “Thank you for once again resuming non-stop passenger services between the sister country of Canada and Panama. Without a doubt, the reactivation of this route is extremely important. We are sure that the benefits of Air Canada's return to Panama will be very significant, not only for our connectivity at our connection points at the airport. This decision constitutes an additional means to promote the tourism, commercial, investment and cultural exchange sectors between both countries.”
For her part, the Canadian ambassador to Panama highlighted the deep relationship that exists between the two countries, based on mutual respect and shared values such as diversity, democracy, tolerance and gender equality, as well as inclusive economic growth and The respect to the environment.
“What a great honor to be here witnessing this first flight that marks one more step towards the end of the pandemic, and what better time to celebrate great achievements than at such an important time for Panama as the Month of the Homeland. Air Canada is one of Canada's most iconic companies and these flights will directly contribute to strengthening ties between Canada and Panama and energizing our relationship."
The director of International Operations of Air Canada highlighted that the airline has already been in Panama for eight years, only interrupted by the pandemic. “It is a source of pride and great emotion to reconnect Canada and Panama after two long years of waiting. It is worth remembering that we reach the six continents with a fleet of environmentally friendly aircraft. We hope that Panamanians continue to refer us. Our entire team on land and on board works every day to offer the best service”, he highlighted.
For his part, Alfredo Babun, Regional Manager for the Andean Countries, Panama and Costa Rica, declared that "with the resumption of this route, Air Canada satisfies the demand in these important markets, and this is how we continue to consolidate our leadership in this destination."
Air Canada has been recognized several times as "The Best Airline in North America" by the Skytrax World Airlines Awards, and continues to work on the ongoing recovery of the industry and establishing better services to continue its activities from the 5 continents where currently operates.
Action plan
Iván Eskildsen, Minister of Tourism of Panama, pointed out that the frequency of international flights from Canada will generate a significant economic impact on the Pacific Riviera, one of the priority destinations of the Master Plan for Sustainable Tourism (PMTS 2020-2025), which is currently being executed the entity that directs in eight regions with tourism potential.
The Pacific Riviera is the coastal area from Punta Chame, in West Panama, to Farallón, in Río Hato, with a high demand for sun and beach experiences, nautical (marine) tourism activities, and active tourism or contact with nature.
The PMTS Action Plan is framed around the concept of "Sun and Beach Plus" for the Pacific Riviera, as a way to differentiate and make this destination more attractive and reactivate the economy, so that it mainly benefits the communities of this region of the country.
