Epa expects to inaugurate the new Café Durán plant in the first half of 2022
Under an investment of 20 million dollars, the Panamanian Food Company (Epa), advances in the construction of a new processing and packaging plant for Café Durán in the province of Coclé.
Since 2012, when the integration of the brands Café Durán, Pascual, Pastas La Suprema and Aceite SuperFry into a single corporation, Epa has been promoting projects and innovations that are committed to the development of the country's industrial sector. The company also promotes a policy of support for local producers aimed at promoting agricultural coffee production in the country. The new plant is estimated to be ready to operate during the first half of 2022.
"With this investment, the company incorporates a generation of plants with new and better technology, in line with world standards of the food industry, which strengthens the competitive position of products made in Panama," said Juan Carlos Jaramillo, president of Epa. The new plant will be the first in the region with PROFORTE equipment for emission control, which is the latest innovation from the world manufacturer PROBAT, a specialist in coffee processing technology. The project is located in the Garicín sector, Río Grande, Penonomé, in an area currently used by the company for the reception, storage and drying of coffee beans. With the new plant, the process that begins in the current facilities of Café Durán, regarding the handling and processing of coffee beans, will be completed.
"This location allows us to be closer to the coffee-producing areas, thereby establishing a more efficient relationship system and opening up new opportunities and capabilities to expand the purchase to local coffee growers," explained Jaramillo. The project involves the construction of two new infrastructures, the first will occupy an area of 2,200 m² and the second will have a construction area of 4,300 m². In total, the new structures will occupy an area of 6,500 m².
