Panama Hotel sector adapts facilities for its future reopening in October

The hotels in Panama have adapted to the biosafety protocols in 12 sensitive areas within their facilities, as part of the measures approved by the Ministry of Health (MINSA), with which they seek to guarantee optimal attention to their visitors, once they restart. the operations of that sector, which according to the schedule, will be next October 12.

The areas established as sensitive include accommodation and reception, public or common areas, food and beverages, events, rooms, laundry, maintenance, suppliers and contractors, reception of raw materials, security, airport service and information systems.

According to Darla Thomas, from Gran Hotel Bahia, Isla Colon, Bocas del Toro province, the measures presented by the Tourism Authority of Panama (ATP) before the Ministry of Health meet the guidelines established in the framework of the route to the new normal and the safe and healthy return to the workplace, framed within the safety parameters.

Thomas validated the biosecurity measures presented by Apatel while suggesting that the Panamanian State design an international campaign in which they detail their scope and their application.

Jaime Pons, from the Hotel Playa Blanca Resort, in Farallon, Cocle province, stated that one of the greatest strengths that clients value are the levels of cleanliness and hygiene that are offered.

He added that they have carried out a series of additional measures to reinforce the disinfection processes in all their rooms, among which are Check In and Check Out, common areas, food and beverages, control and verification processes, among others.

For the president of the union, Armando Rodriguez, the protocols complement the work that the union has been doing for the benefit of its 125 associates, which include 3 training cycles, in order to prepare the hotels towards the new normal.

It highlights that the important thing is that Apatel member hotels have redirected their actions to these biosecurity measures, although it also recognized that this sector is one of the segments of the economy that has suffered the most in the crisis caused by the COVID'19 pandemic , it is probable that 30% of the businesses are not prepared to reopen their doors next October.

The tourism sector of Panama represented a contribution of 4 thousand 400 million balboas to the Gross Domestic Product of the country in 2019. According to estimates, about 100,000 Panamanian families depend, directly and indirectly on the sector.
