Another top international hotel brand is ready to plant its flag in Panama City. A W Hotel will open in the financial district on Jan. 23, marking the first W in Central America.

Viceroy Resort & Residences will open new hotel on Bocas del Toro, Panama

Viceroy Hotel Group (VHG) has announced plans for Viceroy Bocas del Toro Panama, a resort and residences set to open in 2020. The destination will feature 186 modern guest rooms, including 42 overwater villas along 457 acres of coastline — with three miles of private white sand beaches, plus sailing, surfing and hiking adventures just beyond the door.

IFF Panama (International Film Festival) will take place in Panama 05—10 April 2018

Historic road Camino de Cruces to become national monument

Moves are afoot to declare the cobblestones of Camino de Cruces, built around 1530 as a national historical monument. Technicians of the National Institute of Culture (INAC) have carried out a topographic survey and the information will be used to promote the declaration. Currently, the colonial cobblestone only enjoys Panama municipal protection.  In November 2017, the Council approved the declaration of Camino de Cruces as a route of cultural and environmental interest. The declaration was made in the face of construction threats and tree felling.

Panama, Chile team to develop Pacific cruise routes

Chile and Panama are working together to develop and promote Pacific itineraries that support the new cruise terminal under construction at Amador near Panama City and the proposed new Valparaíso pier where cruise ships would get priority.

Panama begins construction of new Amador cruise homeport

Panama broke ground Wednesday for its $166m cruise terminal at Panama City's Amador Causeway, near the Pacific entrance to the Panama Canal. The development of this new homeport on Perico Island is driven by the national government through the Panama Maritime Authority.

Air China starting Panama flights in March

AIR CHINA  will begin flights to Panama in just four months time says Cai JianJiang, president of the National Aviation Company.  He passed the news, to President Juan Carlos Varela, during the current Panama political and trade mission to the People’s Republic of China. It comes after the signing of an aviation agreement between the two countries.

Panama aims to become a green and accessible destination by 2026

The government of Panama assures that it is working on a plan to turn the country into a green and accessible tourist destination by 2026, through adaptations of places for people with reduced mobility and groups of the elderly and the blind, the Authority of Tourism of Panama (ATP) said in a statement.

Panama will host the ILO (International Labor Organization) assembly in 2018

The International Labor Organization (ILO) chose Panama as the venue for its 19th American Regional Meeting, to be held in October 2018.  The event will bring together the 35 labor ministers of the Americas, delegates, union organizations and business chambers of the region that converge every four years to discuss labor issues, said a statement from the Ministry of Labor and Workforce Development (Mitradel).

Panama City among 64 cities joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network

64 cities from 44 countries have been designated as UNESCO Creative Cities by Director-General, Irina Bokova. They join a Network at the frontline of UNESCO’s efforts to foster innovation and creativity as key drivers for a more sustainable and inclusive urban development. This network attracts growing interest from local authorities.

Amador Convention Center will be completed in 2018

The Tourism Minister of Panama, Gustavo Him, accompanied by the Director of Projects of the ATP, Erich Velasquez, and representatives of the Consortium CCA-COCIGE, S.A., inspected the works of the Amador Convention Center (CCA), which shows 53% completion. It is expected that construction will be finished in the latter part of 2018.

Panama records strong increase in visitors from Europe

From January to May 2017, Panama received a total of 102,388 European tourists, a 25.4 per cent increase on the same period in 2016, according to data from the Panama Tourism Authority.  Visitors come mostly from Spain, Germany, France, Italy and the Netherlands, who choose Panama for its nature and culture.
