The Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Panama (CCIAP) said today it hopes that the Central American country will host the CHINA-Latin America and Caribbean Business Summit in 2019. This year, the summit will be held in the Asian country.

The cruise Norwegian Bliss, with a capacity for 5,000 passengers, crossed the expansion of the Panama Canal on Monday and marked a new milestone for the interoceanic route, since it is the largest ship of this type that has traveled through its waters in its history. The Norwegian Bliss is «the largest passenger ship that has traveled the interoceanic way. It has a total length of 325.9 (1,069.2 feet) meters width, sleeve 41.4 (135.8 feet) meters and an 8.3 meter (27.2 feet) draft», said the Panama Canal Authority (ACP).
Panama Canal rules out another extension until 2025 due to lack of water
The Panama Canal ruled out the possibility of building a fourth set of locks at least until 2025 today because it has not yet found a new water source, said the water route administrator, Jorge Luis Quijano. «I do not see it being done before 2025 because first we have to be sure that we have water and that the demand of it is correct. So far there has been no decision, we have simply taken the decision to study other sources of water and also study the technical aspects,» he said.
School ships from 8 countries will arrive in Panama at a continental boat parade
School ships from eight countries with around 2,000 cadets will arrive in Panama next July as part of the Velas Latinoamérica 2018 boat parade, an event held to celebrate its third edition this year and that includes the Central American country for the first time. The representative of Panama at the event, Orley Jiménez, told today Acan-Efe that the school ships from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela, will be in the country from July 7 to 10.

Historic road Camino de Cruces to become national monument
Moves are afoot to declare the cobblestones of Camino de Cruces, built around 1530 as a national historical monument. Technicians of the National Institute of Culture (INAC) have carried out a topographic survey and the information will be used to promote the declaration. Currently, the colonial cobblestone only enjoys Panama municipal protection. In November 2017, the Council approved the declaration of Camino de Cruces as a route of cultural and environmental interest. The declaration was made in the face of construction threats and tree felling.

The Tourism Minister of Panama, Gustavo Him, accompanied by the Director of Projects of the ATP, Erich Velasquez, and representatives of the Consortium CCA-COCIGE, S.A., inspected the works of the Amador Convention Center (CCA), which shows 53% completion.
